When FHN opened its doors in 1986, Vince Nowak started the North soccer program. Now, after 24 years as the boys varsity soccer coach, Nowak announced his retirement on March 1.

The annual Blood Drive was held on March 5 in the Big gym throughout the day. Students had the opportunity to help the cause by donating during one of their classes.

Howell North's speech and debate team finished up one of their last competitions yesterday at the National Forensic League competition at Pattonville High School. Elizabeth Groenweghe, Aurora Blanchard, Samantha Kelly, and Missy Holmes all competed.

"Overall we did good for a starting-out team, considering we made it all the way to the National Qualifiers," coach Theresa Maher said.

Using geometry Steve Willot's four AP stats classes measured the height of the American flag, that hangs in the center of the commons, on Mar. 1.

Columbia Scholastic Press Advisers Association also known as is a Journalism association that awards students for the good work that they do. CSPA announced their online web finalist in February. FHNtoday.com found out they are one of CSPA's finalists.

What started as a basement candle manufactory has turned into something much, much more.

The Boone Center, residing on Trade Center drive, has become a non-profit agency that currently employs approximately 250 adults with disabilities.

“It’s like any job,” BCI Foundation Director Linda Buschman said. “[And] everyone deserves the opportunity to find productive and fulfilling employment.”

Saturday afternoon. Noon. The gym is quiet for all but one girl, lingering alone, but not for long.

This girl looks around at the usual bars, beam, floor, vault and the entire gymnasium.

The room is quiet with anticipation of what is to come, and this girl feels a sort of accomplishment at coming here this day. To sophomore Sara von Harz, this room is full of equipment that means something more than just supplies for an individual competitive sport. Unlike other kids, who see all this as simply a hobby or sport, Sara sees these four pieces of equipment in this room as something more. She sees the future.
